PS4 breaks 40m sales
President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Andrew House, thanked the fans and partners for their support. This, he said, "helped us achieve this significant milestone in such a short span of time."
He added, “We will strive to deliver even more exciting gaming experiences to our users, further driving the momentum and accelerating the expansion of the PS4 platform and its business this fiscal year by offering an unparalleled line-up of games, bringing our virtual reality system, PlayStation VR, to market and providing ground-breaking features and network services.”
Uncharted 4's first week performance certainly helped software sales, having sold 2.7 million copies in one week. Meanwhile, Sony believes that the future is bright with anticipated titles like Gran Turismo Sport, Final Fantasy XV, Nioh, and The Last Guardian.
The PlayStation 4's sales are outpacing all of its predecessors. Sony plans to ship another 20m units this fiscal year. And analysts believe that the release of the PlayStation VR headset will accelerate sales further.
