VIDEO Shooter TV series trailer - Ryan Phillippe replaces Mark Wahlberg

Back in 2007, Mark Wahlberg starred in an instantly forgettable action flick called Shooter. Now we're getting a TV show which will last one season and also instantly erase itself from your memory.

At least that's the impression we're getting from this trailer for the spin off show, which features Ryan Phillippe in the Wahlberg role. Check it out.

This is pretty much the same plot as the movie, and again quite a change from Stephen Hunter's 1993 novel Point of Impact which introduced the character of Bob Lee Swagger. What a ridiculous name.

Hunter has written nine books featuring the character in the last 25 years so there's a lot of material to draw from if this series manages to take hold. Let's hope it's a little less generic when it actually airs - the USA network has recently done great work on Mr. Robot.

Shooter premieres some time in 2016.
