This dying boy's birthday wish came true thanks to kindness of strangers

Community spirit and generosity made a little boy’s wish come true for his birthday.

Toby Penrose is a terminally ill child in Newquay, Cornwall and all he wanted for his 11th birthday was to sit in a sports car.

Toby’s mum Emily put out a Facebook post asking if anyone had a sports car Toby could sit in and the response was phenomenal.

Before long nine kind-hearted sports car owners had responded to the plea, offering their cars to Toby on his birthday.

Last Sunday, at the Esplanade Hotel, Toby was greeted by the sight of nine Ferraris lined up in front of him with a red carpet laid out, just for him.

A crowd of locals came along to cheer Toby on as he made his dream come true and local media also made an appearance to record the special event.

Toby suffers from Adrenoleukodystophy which is a rare inherited disorder that affects the adrenal glands and white matter of the brain.

His symptoms include a loss of vision, seizures, reduced mobility and deafness.

Toby’s mom said her son had the ’biggest smile on his face’ all day long and it was a joy to see him so happy on his birthday.

It was a day the whole family will remember fondly for years to come.
