Resident Evil 7 could be coming

Capcom just put the rumour mill into overdrive with a statement that might suggest a fully new Resident Evil is in the works.

The company was talking about its financial performance up to the end of March 2016, which turned out to be a pretty successful period for the Japanese brand, when this information was reported:

"In the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017, the Company is scheduled to release... "Resident Evil Umbrella Corps" (for PlayStation 4 and PC) of the "Resident Evil" series, which marked its 20th anniversary in March 2016, as warm up to the full-scale offensive planned for the second half of the year...."

What the what now?

That's pretty interesting language for a financial statement, suggesting there's a big plan around the Resi franchise for the not too distant future. Right now there are remasters of Resi 5 and 6 in the works for release before the end of the year but that doesn't really sound like a 'full-scale offensive'.

Of course a full remake of the classic Resident Evil 2 has also been developing for quite some time, with no release date currently set. As the franchise is celebrating its 20th anniversary we could soon get more concrete information on that.

Or it could actually be time to release a new main game in the series. It has been four years since Resi 6 and arguably 11 years since the last decent Resident Evil title - that's 4 back in 2005.
