Cruz drops out of Republican race, elbows wife in face

It was a bad night all round for Senator Ted Cruz.

Not only were his presidential hopes dashed and the Republican nomination left in the hands of his nemesis Donald Trump (who has recently been implying that Cruz’ father was linked to JFK’s killer, Lee Harvey Oswald), the famously awkward Cruz also became the subject of internet mockery after he elbowed his wife in the face not once, not twice but three times on the podium after withdrawing from the race.

It’s a surreal GIF to say the least.

And the internet couldn’t get enough of it.

And even kids were getting in on the Cruz-bashing - at a rally on Tuesday, a young attendee heckled Cruz, shouting ’You suck’.

"I appreciate you sharing your views," Cruz fired back.

"One of the things that hopefully someone has told you is that children should actually speak with respect."

After the heckler was cleared from the event, Cruz took one final shot:

"You know in my household when a child behaves that way, they get a spanking."
