The UK’s first virtual reality rollercoaster, Galactica, came to a halt yesterday leaving passengers stranded high above the ground for around 30 minutes.

When you think of a virtual reality rollercoaster, you may think of sitting into a bucket seat and simply donning a VR headset. But Galactica takes passengers around a real track with VR headsets supplementing the experience.

Alton Towers says that water on a sensor caused the ride to automatically stop. "This is a standard safety feature on this ride and the ride was working exactly as it is designed to do,” its statement said. “The health and safety of our guests is our number one priority and our team followed standard procedures to get the guests off as quickly and as safely as possible. The ride re-opened.”
