Rock Band PC crowdfunding crashes and burns

Harmonix wanted to bring Rock Band to the PC and decided the way to do it was a crowdfunding campaign but the whole affair tanked pretty spectacularly.

Rock Band PC crowdfunding crashes and burns

The project over on Fig was aiming for a fairly low figure of $1.5 million to create a fully functional PC version of the popular game where you hammer plastic peripherals and pretend you can actually play guitar. The intention was to allow the use of whatever older accessories you have lying around and to sell new ones online. You could even get a signed guitar for $1000. The video was so incredibly cheery!

Well the campaign just ended with only $793,000 collected, far short of the goal, after 35 days. It's a disappointment but yet another lesson in how fickle crowdfunding can be. Maybe there just wasn't enough publicity, maybe choosing Fig over Kickstarter was a mistake (it certainly gets less attention) or perhaps people just aren't that interested in a PC version of a title that's always been associated with consoles.

For whatever reason, this is yet another nice thing you can't have.
