A Speedy Gonzales film is coming!

Warner Bros Animation has a new project on the boil, a feature film based on the character of Speedy Gonzalez.

A Speedy Gonzales film is coming!

He first appeared on screen in 1953 with his main characteristic being that he could run really, really fast and spoke like the worst kind of Mexican sterotype. He featured in almost 50 shorts and even picked up some awards (including an Oscar) before going the way of the dodo in the 80s, apart from the odd cameo in the likes of Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

He's well past 50 years old so there's no anniversary to celebrate and there's no sense that the world has been missing this shrill little fella but still the project is in the works, though it's still in the early stages. Quite why its happening will remain a mystery, especially with the frequent references to the character as being little more than a lazy series of Mexican sterotypes. We're going to go ahead and predict that this one will never actually make it to cinemas.
