He will go head to head in the leading actor category with London Spy’s BEN WHISHAW, Wolf Hall’s MARK RYLANCE and STEPHEN GRAHAM, who is nominated for This Is England ‘90.

:: A big-budget Top Gear trip had to be cancelled after the team were not permitted to fly to Kazakhstan.

According to reports, presenters RORY REID, SABINE SCHMITZ AND EDDIE JORDAN were trying to make their way to the former Soviet state alongside around 40 crew members — but they did not get further than Moscow.

The BBC told the Press Association: “Through no fault of the Top Gear team, the airline carrying them was not permitted to fly from Moscow to Kazakhstan and so they returned to London.

“They intend to visit Kazakhstan in the future to shoot the planned film there. The BBC will be looking to recoup the cost of the flights.”

According to The Sun, the failed trip cost around £500,000 (€624,000).

The problem was apparently down to a dispute between Kazakhstan and Russian airline Aeroflot which forced the team to return empty-handed.

:: Musician RUFUS WAINWRIGHT says his singer father LOUDON WAINWRIGHT III was jealous of him and not good at masking resentment.

Rufus, 42, has told a British magazine how his relationship with his father, 69, was “very difficult for a long time”.

But he says they have “found a plateau” where they “love and respect each other”.

“Of all the relationships in my life, the one with my dad has changed the most,” Rufus told The Big Issue. “It was very difficult for a long time. But we seem to have found a plateau where we love and respect each other, though we still have to be mindful of our wounds.”

Rufus, daughter of folk singer KATE MCGARRIGLE and brother of musician MARTHA WAINWRIGHT, 39, added: “I think he was always proud of me but that was coupled with a tremendous jealousy.”

:: TV presenter VERNON KAY has denied acting inappropriately by contacting a glamour model he sexted six years ago.

According to The Sun newspaper, Kay is said to have sent multiple messages to RHIAN SUGDEN over the last few months with the intent of meeting up with the 29-year-old.

However, he maintained that his wife, Strictly Come Dancing presenter TESS DALY, with whom he has two daughters, was aware of their communication.

Posting on Facebook, the 41-year-old said: “Regarding today’s story: I was contacted by Rhian out of the blue back in December regarding the story in 2010 claiming she had information she wanted to pass on.

“I recognise how it may look when messages are pulled out of context but there was never any inappropriate intent to our communication, I was merely trying to find answers to questions that I’ve had since 2010.

“Tess is aware of everything that has been discussed with Rhian.”

Kay publicly apologised to his wife on radio in 2010 after it was revealed he had been sending inappropriate messages to five women, including the glamour model.
