Trend of the week: Denim daze

INSPIRATION

The denim DNA has always been one part heritage, two parts rebellion. While last spring saw a revolutionary 70s redux, this season leans more towards evolution.

Expect an alchemy of cleaner styles making their quieter presence felt.

Gone is the andro-hippie swagger. What remains are its folk roots (embroidery, raw hems, wide legs) – pared back and clean slated with contemporary appeal. Style made simple.

STYLE NOTES

Embroidered denim gives high fashion a homespun edge. Look to monochrome-threaded designs for best results.

Pleats and ruffl es lend quixotic charm to the workaday twill fabric.

Add a crisp white shirt and Swedish Hasbeens clogs for breezy brio.

Make like a Scandi with ovoid shapes, irregular hems and asymmetric draping for a fresh, distilled sensibility.
