Irish director Lenny Abrahamson to helm WWI drama
We've all known about Lenny Abrahamson for a good long while in Ireland, with the likes of Adam and Paul and Garage as his first major efforts and What Richard Did starting to put him onto a world stage. Frank upped that profile still further before Room put it into the stratosphere.
In the wake of Oscar nomations, and a win for Brie Larson, it's likely that the filmmaker has had more offers than ever, and he's choosing to go back to World War 1. A book called The Grand Escape by Neal Bascomb has been optioned by Film4 and Element Pictures with Abrahamson in the frame to direct. It's the tale of a trio of pilots who are caught behind enemy lines during World War 1 and end up in a prisoner of war camp. Then they plot an escape that's grand or something.
