5 things to do for the weekend ahead...

The schedule includes a recreation and staging of the actual 1916 race with riders and horses in period racing silks, the Irish Grand National, and the Carton House Most Stylish Lady Competition judged by Sky Sports presenter Rachel Wyse.

There will also be live music from Sharon Shannon and Paddy Casey, as well as a funfair, face-painting and free entry for children under 18. www.fairyhouse.ie

2. Check out the Redheads

This is your last chance to celebrate the red head in your life and see the exhibition of photographs taken at last summer’s Red Head Convention on display at Cork Airport until Thursday.

The exhibition of portraits by Cork-based fashion photographer, Jorg Koster “captures the differences and the personalities that shine through in each portrait”.

3. Egg-citing Equines

Three days of racing kicks off in Cork Racecourse Mallow today for a combination of National Hunt racing and flat racing. Tomorrow is Most Stylish Sunday.

Michel Jewellers will present a diamond pendant worth €2,000 to the Most Stylish Lady, while Barry’s Menswear will sponsor a €500 voucher for the male winner. www.corkracecourse.ie

4. Space Cowboys

CIT Blackrock Castle Observatory has a workshop this Easter to excite young space engineers with the story of planetary discovery. Eight to 12 year olds will find out how planetary landers are constructed by designing their own craft to land on a comet, an asteroid or even another planet.

The engineers will then test their craft by launching if off the Dome Tower of the Castle with a (raw) egg inside. Workshops will take place from 11am to 12.30pm on Tuesday and Wednesday and are €10.

Pre-booking is advised on 021 4326120 or www.bco.ie/2016/02/easter-workshop/

5. Macaron madness

If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to make the elusive French macarons then a masterclass at Griffins of Dripsey is the event for you. Christine Girault will host the class on April 9 at 11am.

To book, contact Helen on 021 7334600 or email restaurant@griffinsgardencentre.ie
