The Capitol Cinema is no more! Tributes paid to iconic Cork landmark
While much of the old cinema had been gutted and torn down in recent weeks, the iconic front facade has finally been demolished to make way for the €50m re-development.
The Capitol was the first multi-screen cinema outside of Dublin and had entertained the people of Cork right up until its closure in 2005.
The building held a special place in the hearts of many Cork people who have fond memories of seeing films in one the cinemas six screen so, or as one of the cities most iconic meeting points.
The people of Cork (and beyond) have been tweeting their memories and reactions to the Capitol Cinema.
“Cinema is universal, beyond flags and borders and passports.”
