Tried and tested: Skin cleansers

Is a balm better than a gel for removing dirt and make-up? Our testers try three innovative new cleansers.

Tried and tested: Skin cleansers

Sanctuary Spa Warming Cleansing Butter Balm, €15.99 ( www.boots.ie )

“This solid balm softened as I massaged it onto my face, then when I added a little water, it dissolved into a milky liquid that rinsed off.

"While easier than removing with a cloth, and gorgeously scented, it’s a bit more fiddly than regular cleanser, so I’ll stick to using it once a day, at night.”

Erborian Solid Cleansing Oil, €37.50 (spacenk)

“This balm-like product glides over skin, melting off make-up while cleansing the face.

"I’m not sure my skin’s especially suited to it, as I’m prone to breakouts and it only seemed to encourage my spots.

"But for dry faces, flaky from the freezing temperatures, this is a cleanser worth investigating.”

3/5

Vivderma Comforting Gellee Cleanser, €41.20 ( www.vivderma.com )

“To get the best out of this product, you have to massage it into your face for a minute, then use water to form a milky texture and, finally, rinse it off.

"It’s quite a relaxing process, aided by the rose scent, and my skin felt smooth and very clean afterwards.

"Overall though, I found it a bit messy to use.”
