Grown man arrested after posing as model high school student for four years
Artur Samarin was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly assuming a new identity as student ’Asher Potts’. He is said to have enrolled as Potts at the John Harris High School in Pennsylvania in 2012 after his visa to stay in the US expired.
As ’Potts’, Samarin was said to be a model pupil in the high school and was even a member of the National Honor Society. He also had an extremely high grade point average at 4.16.
Samarin was even recognised by a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for his academic achievements.
Samarin allegedly had used fake documents to become ’Potts’ and even had a social security card with his new identity. It is claimed he had a fake driver’s licence on him at the time of his arrest.
After his arrest Samarin was charged with theft, identity theft, and tampering with public records.
In a statement Harrisburg School District has confirmed to Fox43 that they are aware of the arrest.
Kirsten Keys public relations coordinator for the district said: "While we do not know all of the details surrounding the arrest, we are treating this as a serious matter.
"At this time, the investigation is in the hands of the Harrisburg Bureau of Police. The district will continue to cooperate fully with the police department as they move forward with their investigation."
