Cork has once again become the ‘city of lights’ for Christmas and a very special festive atmosphere has descended upon the wonderfully illuminated Leeside.

With the pop-up markets serving a range of festive treats, the choirs dotted around town singing festive hits and the Ferris Wheel offering glorious views of all that’s happening, there is something to please everyone, young and old.

And while Storm Desmond may have disrupted things briefly, forcing the Ferris wheel and the Glow festival on Grande Parade to close temporarily, people have still arrived in their thousands to enjoy what Cork has to offer.

On St. Patrick’s St., the Rotary club’s ‘Tree of Remembrance’ offered people a chance to make a charitable donation to the Marymount Hospice and the Cope Foundation, while also remembering loved ones who have passed on by placing yellow ribbons bearing their name on the tree.

The Cork Dog Action Welfare Group was also raising funds on the streets of Cork with some very well turned out canine companions.

One volunteer who was out collecting said that funds are always needed to provide shelter and safety to the vast number of dogs that have been abandoned or neglected.

Elsewhere, the Cork City Musical Society group was also out and in fine voice, singing to raise money for their next musical production, ‘Crazy for You’. The show will take place between April 29 and May 1 at the Firkin Crane, while auditions will be held in late January. For more details, follow the group on Twitter and Facebook.

Our video, which shows Cork at its best for Christmas, features the group singing ‘Winter Wonderland’ to the lucky people on Grande Parade at the Christmas Market.

Enjoy, and have a very happy Christmas!
