Residents of Carlton Hill, Nottingham got a very unexpected and unusual Christmas surprise yesterday.

It came as a reindeer galloped down streets after absconding from a Christmas event in a local Tesco car park.

No it wasn’t Rudolph, Dancer, Prancer or even Comet dashing down the roads - the fugitive reindeer went by the name of Bjorn.

Warren Porter, 23, from Sherwood saw the roaming reindeer from his car.

"It was one of the weirdest unexpected sights I will ever witness," said Warren.

"I locked my doors and thought ’you’re not getting in here, I’ve got carrots in my boot’. As it ran past, a woman dressed in festive gear was chasing up the road with a rope.

"You couldn’t create a story like that."

Poor Bjorn escaped after being spooked by a car horn at the event and happily he was later safely recovered in a nearby garden.

We are told he remains on the standby list should Santa need him for his sleigh.
