He has been a regular on Irish television for the last decade, on the Blizzard of Odd and The Panel for RTÉ. On the BBC, he is back as a regular panellist on topical news show, The Blame Game, and on Great Unanswered Questions. Doors open at 8.30pm and the show starts at 9.30pm. Admission is €20.

2. Console

Victims of suicide will be remembered at a Christmas Celebration of Light in the Sacred Heart Church, on Western Road, tomorrow at 4pm. The evening of song, music, poetry and reflection also includes the lighting of candles and a minute’s silence.

The event is one of nine celebrations of light being held by Console, the national suicide prevention and bereavement charity. Console offers counselling services and 24-hour helpline support to people in crisis and to the bereaved. Console can be reached at any time on freephone 1800 247 247. 3. Have yourself a tribal Christmas

Festive fever has hit the City of the Tribes: the Galway Christmas Market is in full swing and runs until Tuesday, December 22. Eyre Square is the heart of the festivities, where visitors can browse the wooden chalets, which are brimming with crafts, toys, jewellery, cosmetics, decorations and stocking fillers.

For the foodies, tuck into a bratwurst, taste French pastries or sample a stein at the German Bierkeller, or a warming cup of mulled wine and hot chocolate at the cosy bars and coffee docks. There are vintage carousels and amusements, pantomimes and festive performances, Santa’s grotto and pop-up shops, and the Santa Express will take you on a train tour discovering the sights of the city.

4. L’amour Armour

Bonhams’ visiting specialist is hosting valuation days for holders of antique arms, armour and modern sporting guns, on Wednesday and Thursday, with a view to consigning items to sale at auction in 2016.

On Wednesday, David Williams will be at Bonhams’ Dublin offices, no 31 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2, from 10am to 3pm, and on Thursday he will be at Belleek Castle in Ballina, Co Mayo, from 10am to 4pm.

He will then conduct a tour of the Marshall Doran Collection of Antique Arms and Armour, one of the finest in Ireland.

The tour, which will start at 4pm, is free, but places are limited and booking is essential at ireland@bonhams.com or 01-16020990.

5. Getting crafty

For festive gift ideas, the National Crafts and Design Fair takes place at the RDS, in Dublin, in December, Wednesday to Sunday, and will showcase the work of 500 Irish designers, artists and craftspeople, including fashion,jewellery, ceramics, textiles, woodcraft, photography and art.

The Christmas Food Emporium will feature 120 artisan food producers. Tickets cost €10 and children under 16 are free.

6. Polar plunge

Cork footballers, Brid Stack, Briege Corkery and Rena Buckley, have joined with Special Olympics Ireland to call on people to participate in the Polar Plunge fundraiser in the Blackpool Shopping Centre on Saturday, December 5.

The plunge is an icy dip in a custom-made dunk tank to raise money for Special Olympics athletes.

You can can register at www.specialolympics.ie/polarplunge Registration costs €15 and plungers are asked to raise an additional €35 to support athletes with intellectual disabilities. Plungers who raise more than €50 will also receive a complimentary ‘Ice Cool’ Polar Plunge t-shirt.
