Open to the general public today and tomorrow from 11am to 5.30pm, activities range from saving the world’s most ‘aesthetically challenged’ endangered species in the ‘Ugly Animal Roadshow’ to the Global Chemistry Experiment on hydro gels.

There will also be a time-travelling ‘Doctor Death’ to present the Medi-evil Medicine Show.

2 Antique Fair

Limerick is the place to be if you want to be part of the biggest gathering of Antique & Art dealers anywhere in Ireland.

Up to 100 dealers will be selling their wares to the public — from antique furniture, jewellery and silver, porcelain and china, books, coins and banknotes, clocks and vintage fashion and accessories. To celebrate its 25th year, admission will be free.

The fair takes place from 11am- 6pm today and tomorrow at The South Court Hotel in Raheen.

3 Crescendo

Music lovers are in for a treat when a wonderful cast of singers and musicians gather for a Winter’s Evening Concert in aid of The Cork Association For Autism at The Aula Maxima UCC tonight at 8pm.

The concert will feature the wonderful voices of mezzo-soprano Louise O’Sullivan, lyric tenor Dan Twomey, tenor Kevin Walsh and the Chorus of Opera Cork.

The programme will include favourites from the great musicals, popular Viennese favourites, operatic arias, duets and choruses, and Victorian and Edwardian ballads. Funds raised will go towards the provision of services for adults with Autism and Asperger Syndrome.

4 Swan Song

Cork City Ballet with principal dancers Ekaterina Bortyakova and Akzhol Mussakhanov (left) from Moscow State Ballet will perform a full-length production of Swan Lake in the Cork Opera House from Wednesday until Saturday. Even if you think you know the Tchaikovsky classicfew will be familiar with Cork City Ballet’s version.

Artistic director Alan Foley and choreographer Yuri Demakov have re-produced the original Petipa/Vanov choreography where the prince destroys the evil sorcerer Rothart and is joyfully reunited with the Swan Queen.

5 Wonderful Winterval

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, as this Friday the country’s biggest Christmas Festival, set to host more than 30 events, officially opens when Waterford’s festive lights will be switched on at 4pm.

The festival boasts a yuletide viking celebration, a free 3D light projection show with Winterval ambassador Keith Barry, an ice rink, elves workshop, giant toy museum at City Hall, Polish Christmas celebration, a Transformers and Star Wars exhibition, a live animalcrib, vintage ferris wheel, and a Winter Wonderland created by Bloom Gold medal Winner Gerard Mullen.

You can even tour the city on a Winterval Express Train or Santa’s Victorian Carriage Sleigh

6. DIY Decorations

Want to have a more crafty Christmas? Upcylce you household items for unique Christmas floral arrangements with floral designer Maree O’Sullivan.

She is running a two-night class on Funky Festive Florals at Carrigaline Community School on Monday November 30 and December 7 from 7-9.30pm for €35. There is also a one-day workshop on Wednesday 18 or Wednesday 25 from 1.30-6pm. To book contact Maree on 087 2397289.
