Bloomingdales apologises over 'date rape' Christmas ad

American retailer Bloomingdales got itself into trouble this week when an ad from their Christmas catalogue began circulating on Twitter.

The ad shows a man and a woman laughing with the caption:

"Spike your best friend’s eggnog when they’re not looking."
