PICS: Letterkenny gardaí hailed by ISPCA for rescue and care of 10-day-old puppy

A member of the public spotted a tiny puppy in a hedge in the early hours of this morning near Ard O’Donnell in Letterkenny and alerted the local gardaí.
The gardaí rescued the puppy and brought him to Letterkenny Garda Station. The gardaí involved named the puppy Starsky and proceeded to build him his own ’K9 Unit’ to sleep in.

They put some blankets in the ’K9 Unit’ and fed the puppy through the night with warm milk from a syringe.
Starsky was in perfect health when ISPCA Inspector Kevin McGinley came to get him in the morning and he said the gardaí went "the extra mile" to take care of the pooch.
"They didn’t only look after the little pup, they went the extra mile and showed so much compassion. It was a lovely gesture," said Inspector McGinley.
"I have to say in all my years working with the ISPCA, this is one of the most heart-warming gestures I have ever come across."

The ISPCA is now appealing for anyone with information on the puppy to come forward after he was found alone with no owner’s identification.
"The mother could have left the puppy for a while and went looking for food, or it could have simply been abandoned. We would encourage anyone with any information about the puppy to come forward," added McGinley.
The ISPCA have asked anyone with information on Starsky to ISPCA National Animal Cruelty Helpline in confidence on 1890-515-515 or online.
