A strong selection of furniture to feature at Hegarty’s auction

A WILLIAM and Mary half crown dating to 1689, an 18th century Irish long case clock; a 19th century rosewood davenport and a selection of antique Persian rugs feature at Hegarty’s sale in Bandon next Tuesday (October 27) at 6pm. Other lots of note include a pair of cast iron canons (€2,000-€4,000) and an Irish 18th century pier mirror previously owned by Mariga Guinness.

She was a noted collector and Irish Georgian Society stalwart and the clock was at Mountjoy Square, Dublin.

Contents from Elm House, Grange, Douglas, are included in this auction.

The antique furniture selection is seductive and includes a 19th century Irish library centre table (€2,500-€3,500) and an Irish Regency mahogany card table (€2,000-€3,000).

There is an extensive collection of Edwardian, Victorian and some Georgian drawing room and occasional furniture.

Giltwood and over mantle mirrors, 19th century glass, Irish and English 19th century silver and a 1689 William and Mary half crown also feature.

Among the art lots are early 18th century marine prints of the Battle of St Vincent and three watercolours of Thames barges c1910 by William Varley.

The Irish long case clock is estimated at €4,000-€6,000, the davenport at €1,200-€1,800 and the six Persian wool rugs have estimates ranging from 800-5,000.

Viewing at Hegarty’s, located at the Bypass, Bandon, is from noon to 5pm today and Monday, 2pm to 5pm tomorrow and from noon to the start of the sale at 6pm on Tuesday.
