It was meant to the biggest day of 27-year-old Quinn Duane’s life - the day she walked up the aisle to marry her fiance Landon Borup.

It was all going to plan until she phoned her mother, Kari Duane, last week to say Landon got cold feet and he had called off the wedding.

Although understandably devastated, Quinn and her mother decided to not let the already paid for reception at the fancy 4 star Citizen Hotel in Sacramento, California go to waste.

Kari made contact with local homeless shelters in the area and asked them to enjoy the reception instead.

120 homeless people took Mrs Duane up on the offer and enjoyed a three-course meal of appetizers, salads, salmon, gnocchi and tri-tip steak.

"I hope that when she looks back at this, she knows she was doing something good with a bad situation," her mother added.

The bride herself stayed at home on the night but will fly out with her mother on her non-refundable honeymoon to Belize in the next few days.
