Tom Hanks found this student's lost college ID and it went viral

There was nothing more annoying as a college student than losing your student ID. And there weren’t usually movie stars around to find it for you.

So, proving once again that he’s the nicest guy in Hollywood, Tom Hanks caused a bit of a stir with this tweet last night.

Lauren, a student at Fordham University in New York was tracked down after her roommate and one of her professors noticed Hanks’ tweet. She told E! Online that the whole thing has been ’a whirlwind’:

"My first reaction was, is this real? Is this the real Tom Hanks and not some fan group? But then it all made sense with how I lost it the other day."

@tomhanks We've spoken with the student. If you have someone email [e-mail], we'll arrange to get the ID card back to her. Thanks.

Lauren, who explains the ID must have fallen while taking her phone out, says she has contacted Tom via his Facebook but she has yet to hear back.

"I had to deactivate the card and get a new one," she tells us. "I had to pay $20 to get a new card, so I would love it if I could get my old card back and get my $20 back."
