Winter blooms
Make a date with Griffins Garden Centre in Drispey, Co Cork, tomorrow to learn how to bring some winter colour to your garden.
The free gardening workshop takes place at 3pm where one of the centre’s experts will create an array of winter hanging baskets to give your front door a wow look.

Passion for Fashion
Castleisland is going fashion mad this week when it lays claim to the title ‘Castleisland the Fashion Capital of Kerry’.
On Thursday there will be a fashion show in Nana Bea’s Cafe & Gift shop from 7.30pm and will feature the best of new autumn/winter style for the season from boutiques and designers based in Castleisland.
The evening will also include a drinks reception and spot prizes. Tickets cost €20 and are available from all participating boutiques, stores and Nana Bea’s Cafe & Gift Store.

Musical Treat
The University of Limerick Concert Hall plays host on Friday to an evening of Haydn, Mozart and Stravinsky with the Irish Chamber Orchestra.
The programme will feature Mozart’s first two movements of the overture to his opera “La Finta Giardiniera” with a third movement in the style of a rustic dance, to form the opening Symphony in D major.
The concert starts at 8pm and tickets are priced from €20.

Festival for Foodies
The 39th Kinsale Gourmet Festival starts this Friday, promising a weekend of fine food and wine.
The Festival is hosted by Kinsale’s 11 Good Food Circle restaurants, which go to great lengths to display the talent of their chefs, with an emphasis on locally-sourced ingredients from sea and land, accompanied by carefully selected wines.
The All-Ireland Chowder Cook-Off takes place on Friday afternoon, at 3pm at Actons Hotel where for €5 you can taste each of the chowders, sample local craft beers and cider and be in with the chance to win a €100 gift voucher from the Kinsale Good Food Circle.
There will be prizes for the best hats and costumes for Saturday’s Mad Hatter’ Taste event.

Run for the Hills
More than 1,000 muck monsters are set to run riot at ‘D’hillbillies Mud Run’ which takes place on Saturday October 17.
Participants will be getting down and dirty at Gortnahown Farm in Mitchelstown while raising funds for the Mercy Cancer CARE Centre.
Brave participants can choose to tackle either 6km or 12km of mucky fun which will see them run, crawl, scramble and slide over and under obstacles throughout the wet and wild course overlooking the Galtee Mountains.
D’hillbillies Mud Run is open to anyone over 16 with a reasonable level of fitness looking for a bit of fun. Entry is €35 per individual; the cost for teams of 6 – 19 people is €29 per person.
