Groom interrupts best man speech to save choking guest

Cody Campbell, a Los Angeles County firefighter, married Kelly Yocca in California on Saturday and, just as he was about to toast his new bride, duty called.

During the best man’s speech by Cody’s father Craig, one of Kelly’s 60-year-old relatives began choking on a piece of her steak.

Cody’s reflexes kicked in and he leapt into action.

He told ABC7 news:

"I heard a couple of people yell ’My God, she’s choking!’… I just went back on my training and performed the Heimlich, and after about five or six thrusts, a piece of meat became dislodged from her throat."

The guest thanked Cody for saving her life and the festivities continued.

And Cody told reporters that the woman went on to finish her steak.
