Irish Rail has been showing a rarely-seen romantic side this morning.

This couple were treated to a very romantic train journey by Irish Rail

Commuters Ciaran O’Keeffe and his fiancée Geraldine McCauley met on the crowded 7.06 to Dublin Connolly two years ago.

Back in 2013, Ciaran, a daily commuter on the Maynooth line, noticed a girl who was always at Coolmine Station. Ciaran plucked up the courage to talk to Geraldine, leaving the station one evening and the rest is history.

This morning, the couple did their final commute as singletons before their wedding next week.

To mark the occasion, Irish Rail surprised Geraldine with some "in flight" bubbly, flowers and even a singer, Simon Morgan, to serenade them.

Rita Butterly of Irish Rail said that the train theme would continue on their actual wedding day.

"We would never of heard of anything like this before - in actual fact, Ciaran contacted us because he wanted to have a railway theme for this wedding, and was going to have the tables named after different railway stations" she said.

"So he’s going to have an Ashtown table, a Castleknock table, Coolmine, Connolly - all different tables for his guests".

"And we were helping him with that, and we just thought it would be a nice idea to surprise Geraldine this morning."
