Well if this doesn’t brighten your day, then nothing will.

A 72-year-old charity fundraiser lost his phone in Kilkenny - and Facebook helped get it back

Eugene O’Leary is 72 years old and is currently doing a charity buggy push from Whitehall in Dublin to Whitegate in Cork, in aid of Chernobyl Children’s Trust.

Which is a pretty great story in his own right.

But yesterday, Eugene dropped his phone somewhere outside Kilkenny and things got even better.

The phone was found by a Breda Delaney and her family on the side of the road outside Gowran, Co Kilkenny and they began looking for a way to return it to his owner.

Eugene has a Facebook page where he keeps his supporters updated on his progress so Breda posted from the page asking for information on his whereabouts.

Eugene’s family and friends got on the case and after a bit of detective work, they used information from the app monitoring Eugene’s journey to track him down in Ballyhale.

Breda and her family then drove straight over and reunited Eugene with his phone, even managing to grab a quick selfie with the man himself.

She later commented that they delighted they were able to help.

Well done to everyone!"
