Auction to cater to a variety of eclectic tastes at Hegarty’s

Viewing gets underway in Bandon today for Hegarty’s auction next Tuesday at 6 pm.

The sale will feature contents from Lysanne House in Blackrock, Cork and items originally purchased at the Adare Manor auction in June of 1982.

Among the latter are an Irish George III stool with cabriole legs and a George II circular wine table with birdcage movement.

The sale features a coin, jewellery and silver collection. The highlight here is a proof 22 carat gold medal commemorating the 900th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings by Spink and Sons, London, 1966.

The medals weighs six ounces and are estimated at €5,000-€7,000. Also on offer are some 18th and 19th century coins, including sovereigns.

Furniture highlights include an Irish Georgian mahogany card table (€1,500-€2,500), a Regency rosewood Ladies’ davenport (€2,000-€3,000), a c1850 ormolu mounted credenza (€4,000-€6,000) and an Edwardian bureau bookcase (€800-€1,200).

There are 20 lots of 19th century jewellery, including a 0.5 carat solitaire diamond (€1,000-€2,000). Collectibles include mirrors and glass and there is a single owner collection of 20th century Irish and English art.

Viewing, noon to 5 pm today; Sunday/Monday, 2pm to 5 pm and noon to start of auction on Tuesday.
