PIC: Sports broadcaster zings @GardaTraffic with cyclists tweet

98fm sports broadcaster Darren Cleary has hilariously caught out the popular twitter account of An Garda Síochána today.

Darren asked @GardaTraffic for more information on the laws surrounding cyclists using the footpath. Responding to the tweet the Gardaí told Darren that depending on the circumstances it could be considered "cycling without reasonable consideration".

Seeing the answer Darren then tweeted back a picture he’d received from colleague Alison Healy yesterday, it clearly shows two Gardaí cycling on the footpath next to a closed road with two signs asking cyclists to dismount.

The closed road in question, Grand Canal Quay in Dublin, is popular with cyclists.

While construction work takes place, cyclists are being asked to dismount and walk with their bikes rougly 50 metres on the narrow path to avoid any unnecessary collisions with the walking public.

While there is absolutely no suggestion that the two gardaí involved are doing anything illegal, you can see how the picture could be slightly embarrassing.

@GardaTraffic has yet to respond to his picture, so we are giving this round to Darren.
