’El Lissitzky: The Artist and the State’ coming to Ireland

El Lissitzky: The Artist and the State brings an extraordinary body of work by the Russian avant garde artist to Ireland, and in particular to the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) for the first time.

’El Lissitzky: The Artist and the State’ coming to Ireland

The exhibition is lent to the museum by the Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

El Lizzitsky (1890 - 1941) was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. The exhibition is at IMMA until October 18. This image by El Lissitzky is entitled Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge.

The works are shown alongside archival material related to Alice Milligan and Maud Gonne’s theatrical tableaux, and newly commissioned and recent works by Rossella Biscotti (Italy 1978), Núria Güell (Spain 1981); Sarah Pierce (USA 1968) and Hito Steyerl (Germany 1966).
