Antiques in brief
With everything from antique furniture and silver to tin plate toys, collectibles and art, the Kinsale Antiques and Art Fair takes place at Acton’s Hotel from 11am to 6pm tomorrow. This event is always a crowd-puller.
Unusually Hibernian Antique Fairs come to Kinsale three times each year because of its popularity. Organiser Robin O’Donnell says he could fill the venue twice over each time. The fair offers jewellery, vintage fashion, china, porcelain, books, glass, netsuke, coins and banknotes.
The antique and collectors sale at Cork Auction Rooms at noon tomorrow includes a some religious silver items which belonged to a priest who worked during the War of Independence. Among them are three containers for anointing oils.
The sale includes a gold 1914 Munster Schools Rugby medal, two long case clocks, examples of taxidermy and a large dinner gong engraved with the arms of the Perceval Family of Co Waterford. Viewing is 10am to 6pm today and from 9am tomorrow.
An online Irish art auction by Morgan O’Driscoll continues until August 4 at 6.30pm. The sale of 320 lots, including sculpture, will be on view in Skibbereen from next Friday and over the bank holiday weekend from noon to 5pm each day and from 11am to 3pm on August 4.
Some 29 lots have been donated by a range of artists to raise funds for the newly opened West Cork Arts Centre. The sale can be viewed online at www.morganodriscoll.com
A 1952 Cork Hurling Team advertising board, including Christy Ring’s signature and photograph, comes up as lot 151 at Matthews antique auction in Oldcastle, Co Meath at 6.30 pm next Tuesday.
There is a Glen Rovers 1958 team photograph and a signed Christy Ring photo and a Michael Collins 1922-1972 souvenir brochure signed by Cork’s Lord Mayor. Estimates range from €20-€70.
There will be an antiques and more fair at Clontarf Castle Hotel in Dublin tomorrow. Opening times are from 11am to 6pm.
