SeaFest 2015, Ireland’s first national maritime festival, takes place today and tomorrow in Ringaskiddy, Haulbowline and the Port of Cork, promising lots of seafaring family fun with free entertainment, modern warship tours and a RNLI duck race www.seafest.ie
Other family festivals this weekend include the Laya Healthcare City Spectacular www.cityspectacular.com in Dublin’s Merrion Square (also in Cork at Fitzgerald Park on July 18 and 19), with street entertainment, science, Lego and other fun activities.

The Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) has advised consumers to check that their sun creams are not past their safe usage date and contain the appropriate protection and to always apply at least the recommended amount of product 20 minutes before sun exposure. For children, that depends on height and weight — two teaspoons for a two-year-old, four for a nine-year-old etc. More tips for sensible sun exposure can be found on HPRA.ie.
