Why does my girlfriend need to drink before we have sex?

My girlfriend always needs to have a few drinks before we have sex. She’s quite insecure in general and I think that must be why. 

What can I do to help her? I think she’d get more out of it when sober.

It’s not called dutch courage for nothing. Alcohol is an ingrained part of many people’s social lives — and that includes sex and romance.
