Today is the 10th anniversary of David Tennant as ’The Doctor’

Doctor Who fans probably don’t need us to remind them but for all others this day is a very special day in the Whovian calendar.

Today is the 10th anniversary of David Tennant as ’The Doctor’

On June 18 2005, the BBC aired what would be Christopher Eccleston's final episode as the Time Lord.

'The Parting of Ways' was an emotional rollercoaster for fans of the hit time travel franchise as it saw the end of the ninth Doctor, the first since the show's rebirth in the same year.

The official Doctor Who Twitter account marked the occasion with this message to fans.

But while we reflect on Eccleston's short but memorable run as the Doctor we must also look to what came next.

Enter David Tennant, the man who would become one of the most popular actors to push the pull doors and step into the TARDIS.

Whilst Eccleston starred in only 10 episodes of the show, Tennant went on to stay for three seasons and appeared in 47 episodes.

But, lest we forget, let's take a look back at the moment we said goodbye to nine and made way for number 10.
