Some fine furniture at Adam’s sale
An elegant c1775 gentleman’s writing desk by William Vile is the top lot. The estimate is 18,000-22,000. William Vile was among the top London furniture makers of the neo-classical age.
His name has been overshadowed by Thomas Chippendale but he is very much sought after by discriminating collectors.
This sale is strong in fine furniture. Among the main lots are a Regency circular dining table possibly by William Trotter of Edinburgh (€15,000-€20,000) and a George IV breakfront bookcase by James Winter and Sons (€10,000-€15,000).
The leather and brass travelling trunk by Louis Vuitton is estimated at €2,000-€3,000. There is a similar estimate for A Bay Stallion with a Dog in a Lanscape by William Brocas.
A portrait of a lady with a large hat by Charlotte Blakeney Ward is estimated at €600-€1,000 and a pair of Dublin Georgian silver sauce boats by Matthew West is estimated at €3,000-5,000.
The auction is on view today from 11 am to 5 pm.
