Entertainment news round-up: Jonathan Rhys Meyers back on the mend

IRISH actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers has thanked fans for their support by sharing a picture of himself, looking happy and healthy, with his fiancee, Mara Lane.

The 37-year-old, who has reportedly been battling alcoholism since 2005, sparked concerns for his wellbeing after he was photographed in London earlier this month, dishevelled and drinking from a bottle of vodka. But Jonathan has released a statement through film producer Mara’s Instagram account, reassuring fans he is recovering from a “minor relapse”. The statement said: “Mara and I are thankful for your support and kindness during this time. I apologise for having a minor relapse and hope that people don’t think too badly of me. I stopped drinking immediately and it is no reflection on Damascus Cover, as I was not meant to attend Cannes this year and I apologise to fans and colleagues.

“I am on the mend and thank well- wishers and am sorry for my dishevelled appearance, as I was on my way home from a friend’s and had not changed. I feel I made a mistake and feel quite embarrassed, but this was just a blip in my recovery. Otherwise, I’m living a healthy life.”
