Finest furniture set to fetch top prices

THE sale at Woodwards in Cork next Wednesday at 6pm is to feature a three-pillar dining table by the O’Connell family of well known Cork furniture makers. It is estimated at €1,000-€2,000.

Meanwhile, a French Napoleon III wine cooler (€1,500-€2,000), a Regency sideboard (€800-€1,500) and a long case clock by Jonathan Wheeler, Cork, (€500-€800) are among the other lots certain to create interest.

Other lots include a Vienna clock (€400-€600), a Scotch chest (€400-€600), a bow front serving table (€300-€400), an Eileen Gray E1027 chrome table (€300-€400), a pair of cast iron garden seats (€1,500-€2,000) and a garden statue of Venus (€250-4€00).

Among the artists whose work will feature are Arthur Maderson, Kevin Sanquest, Avril Daly, William Harrington and Josef Keys. There is a large selection of Waterford Crystal and a Niderviller rose decorated porcelain dinner service. The sale is on view at Cook Street, Cork, noon to 5pm today, 2pm to 5pm tomorrow, and 10am to 5pm next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

n Kilkenny All-Ireland Hurling medals for 1907, 1911 and 1913 from the John T Power collection sold for €40,000 at Fonsie Mealy’s sale in Kilkenny on Tuesday (reported here last week). Clare’s first 1914 All-Ireland medal sold for €9,759.

n A 1930s diamond necklace by Cartier, estimated at €70,000-€90,000, sold for €210,000 at James Adam in Dublin on Tuesday evening.
