All Whyte on night as guitar edges it and film ‘n frets excite

Top lot in the film posters section was Psycho

Hitchcock topped Bond at Whyte’s Rock Pop and Movies sale in Dublin last Saturday. The top lot of the day was Edge’s student guitar, which made €21,000 and was sold to a buyer in Hollywood, California. The top lot in the film posters section was Hitchcock’s Psycho, which made €2,300.

A poster for Dr. No, doctored by the Irish film censor who covered the white bikini worn by Ursula Andress with a more modest outfit, sold for €1,400 and posters for Goldfinger and Thunderball made €2,000 and €1,900 respectively. A poster for The Bridge on the River Kwai made €1,300 and one for Star Wars sold for €1,100.

A guitar signed by Paul McCartney and Eric Clapton sold for €1,250 and another signed by Bob Dylan also sold for €1,250.

A first pressing from 1955 by Sun Records of Elvis Presley singing ‘That’s All Right Mama’ made €1,000 and two other Sun Record discs with Elvis from 1955 sold for €280 each.

The Rory Gallagher tour programme was unsold. A strap worn on the thigh by Jimi Hendrix made €2,200.
