How Twitter reacted to the announcement of a Christmas World Cup final
The game will take place on December 18, 2022. Just seven days before Christmas and right in the middle of the season for many of the top club leagues.
The change from the summer to the winter for football's biggest showpiece is due to concerns over temperatures being too high for players to perform in and fans to enjoy the game in a country which has scorching summers.
Allayed to this are claims that Qatar's record on human rights leaves a lot be desired with thousands of immmigrants employed to build the stadiums in a country which has little football heritage to speak of.
FIFA will be expecting another bumper commercial payday but for many fans and commentators, it seems, this is the final straw from an organisation that continually courts controversy.
