Shocked Dublin woman gets anti-marriage equality letter in child’s writing through door

A woman in Dublin was shocked to receive a note, seemingly written by a child, promoting a no vote in the upcoming marriage equality referendum on May 22.

Tracey Walker saw a man pass a note in her door and, assuming it was junk mail, was about to dump it when she saw what was written on it.

She said she "must have stared at [the note] for half an hour in shock".

It depicted stick figures of a child with its mother and father, and a message in childish writing: "Vote No. Even I need to live with dad and mom."

Walker says a man was distributing the same note to all of her neighbours, some of whom took offence at the apparent exploitation of a child.

"Some fella went to all the neighbours and put one through the door," she says.

"I say each to their own but getting children to do this is wrong. I don't like how he had his child prepare it.

"Seems some neighbours threw it back at him."

Walkers says she "can't believe people get their children to do this."

"If it wasn't a child he made it look like a child wrote the message and that's wrong."

She believes it is a photocopy which is being distributed en masse in the area.

"As he put it in every letter box I would say he printed or copied them to distribute."

Walker says she respects the opinions of others but believes this was a low blow.

"I am all for voting as per your beliefs but this looks bad."
