Wealth of fine pieces to go under hammer at Sheppards auction next week

The auctions of nearly 1,400 lots will get underway each day at 10.30 am. Nearly 200 lots of Asian art will come under the hammer on Thursday morning.

There is some Cork furniture and glass, including a long case clock with arched brass and silver dial by James Uppington and a c1830 chest of drawers on paw feet.

A c1720 walnut and inlaid chest on chest is estimated at €14,000-€18,000, a c1760 Irish silver table is estimated at €8,000-€12,000 and an 18th century walnut inlaid bureau bookcase is estimated at €10,000-€15,000. Many lots are far more affordable than this.

In fact this is a season where antique furniture bargain hunters can find treasure at nearly every auction as prices for many less exotic lots remain deeply depressed.

Sheppards is on view in Durrow from 10am to 5pm today, tomorrow and again on Monday.
