Czech tourist robbed in Galway praises the people of Ireland for their kindness
A Czech Redditor posted a heartwarming “huge thank you to the people of Ireland” for their generosity after he was a victim of theft at his hostel.
‘NuriCZE’ explained that he was robbed of about a month’s wages, forcing his to cut his holiday short and return home to the Czech Republic.
“I just want to say THANK YOU to the people of Ireland, specifically of Galway and Dublin, because were it not for you, I may have had quite a lot of problems.
“I came to Ireland for holidays. I have spent some time in Dublin and then went on to hike the West Coast. Unfortunately, I ran into quite a lot of troubles in Galway.
“You see, even though all the people there are lovely, in the hostel I stayed at, was a mental sack of crap that decided to steal quite a sum off my wallet. I left it unguarded for a few minutes and the idiot had enough time to steal my money and check out of the hostel.
“That's when the holidays stopped and I had to go back to Czech Republic. I had very little money (just enough for a plane ticket back and about 20e for food/other stuffs).
“And that's when the Irish mentality shone the brightest.
“I got a lift from Galway to Dublin thanks to an unknown van driver who offered to take me there with no charge, a fresh pouch of tobacco from a random pedestrian who saw me crying next to the Czech embassy in Dublin, a huge help navigating the city thanks to a random Redditor whose username I forgot, but who shared his 3G connection with me in the garden of Ely Bar & Brasserie and who offered to pay for a taxi to get me to the last of the great helpers, [fellow Redditor] ‘/u/Dev__’ - who is an absolute class of a human being.
“He met with me for a pint the first time I came to Dublin and when I contacted him about being royally screwed invited me to stay over for a night before my flight, made me two extremely lovely meals, offered me a beer to calm down and was immensely helpful in every possible way.
“Sean, thanks so much man, you've done so much for me I will never be able to express my gratitude. The stew was perfect and the sandwich was just heavenly, as was the "bed" of some sort that you've made for me.
“Thank you, people of Ireland, you made me fall in love with your country and with the mentality of helpful and happy people who try their best to help a guy in need.
“Irish people are grand and I hope to help someone as much as all of you helped me.
“Go Raibh Maith Agaibh!”
We are so happy that his experience of our country wasn’t completely ruined by one awful person.
He has even revealed that he hope to return someday.
“I was hoping to spend more days in Ireland, but I just know that I will return. There's still plenty of Ireland for me to see and even more people that I want to meet!”
It is the people of Ireland, just as much as the landscape, that made his trip here worthwhile.
“I realised the glorious feeling did not come just from the landscape, but from all the people - a lot of people were outside, drinking on the beach, walking their dogs... even the beggars were polite, for crying out loud!
“In CzR, if you say that you can't give a beggar anything, they will curse you and spit, throw stuff - In Galway, I apologised to a few, saying that I'm not local and that I'm rather poor (or well, can't afford to hand out money) and they always said that it's no problem and that they are not pressuring me into anything, wished me a good day and asked whether I need any help... Just woah.”
We look forward to welcoming you back to Ireland, NuriCZE.
