Many are still arguing about the topic of water charges, but very few are addressing the issue of water conservation and using our resource responsibly.

Chadwicks Building Providers have created a helpful inforgraphic which shows how best to use water in your home, from showering and bathing to cleaning and gardening.

The infographic, entitled "How To Save On Water at Home" shows some interesting facts concerning just how much water we use and how we use it.

• Over 80% of us are wrong when guessing how much water we use;

• The typical Irish person’s water footprint is over 3600 litres per day;

• It currently costs the state approximately €1.2 billion per annum to run the public water system

Product Category Manager for Chawicks, Justin Sheehan, has stressed how important it is we improve on the ways in which we use water.

"Water may be essential to life, but sometimes the way we treat it isn't as necessary." he said.

"This infographic shows that we can respect our invaluable resource while making the most of it, helping both the environment and our wallets at the same time."
