Did you enjoy RTE’s ’Charlie’? Then you need to see this!
We saw several sides to Charlie Haughey throughout his political career and Aidan Gillen's depiction showed a ruthless man who lived to influence.
However, Haughey's portrayal of himself in this late '80s documentary probably required even more acting.
Here we see Haughey as a grounded and earthy documentary maker extolling the virtues of dear old Ireland.
We see him steering a ship on the west coast, strolling down lanes in rural Ireland and visiting the graves of 1916 republicans.
While Haughey clearly seems to be in love with the Emerald Isle, he also seems to be in love with his vast wealth and his every man cover is blown when he shows off his private island, horses, art collection and mansion.
Seems like when Haughey addressed the nation and told us that we were living "way beyond our means" he wasn't talking from personal experience.
