Parents invoiced for child’s no-show at birthday party

The parents of a five-year-old boy wereinvoiced for £15.95 (around €20) when their son failed to turn up to a classmate’s birthday party.

Alex Nash, from Cornwall, was invited to a birthday party just before Christmas but couldn't attend after they realised he was double-booked - he was due to spend time with his grandparents.

His father, Derek, says they had no contact information for the birthday boy's mother and thought nothing more of it until an invoice in a brown envelope turned up in Alex's schoolbag.

Mr Nash told the BBC: "It was a proper invoice with full official details and even her bank details on it.

"I can understand that she's upset about losing money. The money isn't the issue, it's the way she went about trying to get the money from me.

"She didn't treat me like a human being, she treated me like a child and that I should do what she says."

Julie Lawrence who sent the invoice said that Alex's non-attendance at the event at a dry ski-slope left her out of pocket and his parents had her details to tell her he was not going.

Alex' father has said that he has been told he will be taken to the small claims court over his refusal to pay.
