During a weekend where world leaders gathered in Paris in a show of solidarity following last week's shootings, America's second family paid their own quick tribute.

In a quick, blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, the show's creators used a scene transition to pop up their brief message.

The quick display shows Maggie holding a flag emblazoned with the words "Je suis Charlie", with one shoulder loose - in a tribute to the famous painting La Liberté guidant le peuple(Liberty leading the people).

That painting, by Eugène Delacroix, is itself a tribute to the French Revolution in 1830 (and painted later that year) - it shows Liberty personified leading the French people with the nation's tricolour held aloft.

A weighty reference to squeeze into a one-second clip.
