IRISH literature, myth and legend inspired the Westerness series by the celebrated Northern Irish painter Colin Middleton (1910-1983).

The title of the series is drawn from Finnegan’s Wake and there is a fine example at Whyte’s Important Irish Art sale in Dublin on November 24 at 6 pm.

The Witch of Mullaghderg, painted in 1975, recalls his earlier surrealist paintings and it has been widely exhibited.
