The Limerick duo have added another string to their plastic bags in a collaboration with Russell Brand on a version of the Blur song ‘Parklife’. The British celebrity was inspired to do the tune after a TV tĂȘte-Ă -tĂȘte with Newsnight presenter Evan Davis went viral.

Meanwhile, Eminem has sparked quite an amount of outrage and publicity for lyrics on his new track ‘SHADYXV – THE CXVPHER’, in which he uses the term ‘dyke’ and also raps “Play nice? Bitch, I’ll punch Lana Del Rey right in the face twice”.

And finally, a word for the late Henry Jackson, aka Big Bank Hank of the Sugarhill Gang, who has passed away at the age of 57 after a battle with cancer. Jackson was among those providing words on the first ever rap hit, ‘Rappers Delight’, in 1979.

GIG WISE: Tickets for the MTV Crashes Cork events were made available yesterday, with British soul singer Jessie Ware topping the bill for a gig with dance outfit Gorgon City at the City Hall on November 27.

There’s also a flock of Irish bands appearing as part of the Cork Music Trail at the event, including Hudson Taylor and Riptide Movement.

The Fish Go Deep/Sweat birthday parties have long been an institution on the Irish dance scene, with the duo digging up another batch of golden oldies on the occasion of their 26th (yikes!) celebration tomorrow at the Library in Cork.

FILM TIPS: The Carte Noire IFI French Film Festival kicks off in Dublin on Wednesday, with the usual impressive line-up of classic and contemporary films, and a visit from Mathieu Amalric, the Bond villan from Quantum of Solace.

Jameson Dublin International Film Festival presents a screening of Sundance winner Whiplash at Movies@Dundrum on Tuesday.

Nightcrawler is on the roster at Triskel Christchurch in Cork from Sunday.
