Most of us already know the story of Les Miserables, Victor Hugo’s epic novel of the French Revolution, mainly told through the eyes of Jean Valjean, Inspector Javert and featuring Cosette, Fantine and Marius. But anyone who has seen the play or the films — most recently Tom Hooper’s adaptation starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Eddie Redmayne — will also feel sympathy for the supporting characters such as Eponine and Gavroche.
In A Little In Love, Birmingham author Susan Fletcher reimagines the life of Eponine from her impoverished beginnings with her parents — the mean-spirited Thenardiers — to her first meeting with Cosette, the family’s move to Paris and her encounters with revolutionary student Marius, until she makes the ultimate sacrifice for love.
